[ In the midst of all this blizzard nonsense and magic going haywire, it'd be understandable if Lapis hasn't had time to visit her new bonded in the infirmary. Peridot being barely conscious the whole time, she definitely hasn't noticed the absence anyway.
They probably haven't spoken in a few weeks. That's just how sick Peridot has been. But she's finally on the mend now, so as soon as she's able, she wastes no time picking up her watch and dialing Lapis for a video call. She stares intently at the little screen, holding it right up to her face, waiting for an answer. ]
Yo- [Is Peridot's first, unaffected response. However the moment that she sees that it's Peridot, her face is immediately all too close to the screen. It's like. A quarter of her nose, and mostly her eye!]
[ Peridot instinctively leans back from the camera a little, as if that'll give her a better view of Lapis's face. ]
In a manner of speaking, yes. [ Her voice is still pretty croaky sounding, but she looks better than she has at any other point in the last few weeks. ] Where are you?
[Peridot blinks owlishly, unsure of how to react to this sudden deluge of concern.]
They said I was out for several weeks. [She murmurs this, then trails off, contemplating a moment... Until a thought hits her like a bolt from the blue, and True Fear spreads her face ] Oh my stars MY PLANTS! Lapis PLEASE tell me you've been taking care of my plants!!!
Of course I took care of the plants! And I still am! [That is, quite literally, the least of her concerns right now?? The camera shifts back to mostly nose and eye.]
I'm more worried about you than the plants, though! Tell me how you're feeling!
[The message arrives early in the afternoon, after the rush of morning activities has subsided and everyone is carrying on with their various tasks for the day.]
Lapis Lazuli? This is Lorenz.
[It was his first time using the Audio function during their several months in Aefenglom. He wasn't entirely certain of what he was doing, but pressed forward with the courage and self-assuredness of a soldier who knew what their fate was regardless of the outcome.]
Please respond when you are able. It has been some time since we met, and I have been wondering about how you have been doing.
[Maybe Everyone he knows is carrying on with their various tasks, but having already taken care of a group of plants, Lapis really doesn't feel like moving much of anywhere. Or doing much of anything else.
Even Pumpkin is particularly subdued, even though she at least tries to encourage Lapis to move.
Hearing Lorenz's voice call to her, however, gives a flash of anger that's quickly subdued by her own grief.]
I'm fine.
[Is her slightly muffled response. She clearly doesn't sound particularly enthused, or fine.]
[Ah, yes. Given their last meeting, this outcome was hardly a surprise. Lapis carried a darkness buried deep within her heart that she didn't seem to know how to tame-- it was volitile, moreso than a caged turnskin under the light of the full moon.
Lorenz sighed in resignation, idly twirling a blue spiderwort he had been working with that morning amid his fingers. The delicate petals seemed far too fragile to touch, but it's whip-like leaves were strong.]
Your voice say's otherwise, dear.
...I heard about what happened to your partner. You have my sincerest condolences. Is there anything you need?
[She feels like she's being cracked all over again when he says that. When he brings it up that Peridot is gone, and she's effectively alone once more.
It's his fault.
If she had had a bond, maybe she would have been able to get to Peridot sooner. Maybe it would have stopped her from disappearing. She doesn't actually believe that, but it feels like it makes her anger justified and right and that's what she wants in the moment.]
[The rage was still there, unmistakeable even over the distortion of their connection through the magically endowed watches. It was an insurmountable tidal wave that pulled the water from the harbor and threatened the very city itself-- briefly, Lorenz wondered if she were drowning in it.]
Perhaps a listening ear? [He asked gently, as if speaking to a spooked horse that was rearing upwards, beyond where anyone's hands could reach.]
Ms. Lapis, my name is Edelgard von Hresvelg, someone from Lorenz's world.
He suggested to me that I reach out to you, as the two of you have apparently grown quite close, and thought that it might be nice for us to get to know each other as well.
I hope my message finds you well. I'd love to speak with you, at any time when it would be convenient.

[There's a brief whine in the background as Pumpkin hears her name called, but doesn't really appreciate the tone of which Lapis says it with.
It's pretty bold of him, as far as she's concerned to talk to her like this. It's his fault all this happened in the first place.]

He seemed to think it'd be good, since we're bound to meet eventually.
I'm glad you're well. I suppose I just wanted to touch base, though I'm well enough. Busy, of course, but that's life.
Have you been on this world long?
